General Information:

Medco Health is the prescription drug benefit manager for the Greater Pennsylvania Carpenters Medical Plan

Our prescription program uses a three tier program with three levels of co-pays.

Generic $5.00 $10.00
Preferred (Formulary) Brand $20.00 $40.00
Non-Preferred (Non-Formulary) Brand $35.00 $70.00
There is a mandatory generic provision in the plan.  If a member selects a brand name drug when a generic is available, the member will be charged the difference between the brand drug and generic drug in addition to the generic co-payment.  Please note this provision applies to all prescriptions, regardless if the doctor mandates it as "DAW", dispense as written.

There is a $50.00 deductible per patient per year.

Patients are responsible to 50% coinsurance once they meet the $5000 annual CAP.

Mail Order:

Mail Order is the most efficient way to prescriptions that you take for long-term or chronic conditions.  To learn more about getting started with Medco By Mail, click here.  Through the Mail Order Service, you can purchase up to a 90-day supply of most prescription medications.  There may be limitations on some prescriptions such as controlled medicines, subject to state and federal dispensing limitations.

Retail Pharmacy:

The Giant Eagle Pharmacy is the Greater Pennsylvania Carpenters preferred pharmacy location for retail prescription services.  The most efficient way to use your retail pharmacy is to present your member I.D. card. at the retail pharmacy.  Your retail plan should be used for medications required on a short-term basis.  When you have a prescription filled, present your member I.D. card to the pharmacist, who will use an automated system to verify your coverage and prescription cost.  At retail, you may purchase up to a 30-day supply of most prescriptions medications.  There may be limitations on some prescriptions such as controlled medicines, subject to state and federal dispensing limitations.

Accredo, Medco's specialty pharmacy

Accredo, Medco's specialty pharmacy provides a high level of care for patients with chronic or serious conditions, who take drugs that require injection, special handling and monitoring during distribution and usage. These medications are used to treat conditions such as MS, Hepatitis C, Rheumatoid Arthritis, among others.  To learn more about Accredo, click here.

  • 24/7 access to pharmacists who are trained in specialty medications, their side effects, and the conditions they treat.
  • Expedited delivery to your home or your doctor's office for all your specialty prescription medications.
  • Some supplemental supplies, such as needles and syringes, required to administer the medication will be included at no additional charge.
  • Scheduling of refills and coordination of services with home care providers, case managers, and doctors or other health care professionals.
